One of my last field trips with my class, I like to end it with a trip to Fiesole, it's quiet, and generally cooler than Florence. The Roman theatre and baths are a great way to put it all in perspective, what civilization means and getting a sense of the passage of time and history.

A punishing physical trip to Cinque Terre. First we had to navigate around a train strike in Tuscany, and then the 4.5 km hike up and down the trail between two of the towns. We were not mentally or gear wise ready for the push, in the heat, and it ended up effecting the rest of the trip there. I did get some good work done (see the Florence Blog for photos) but in the future, I think I'll stick to the beach and avoid the hiking.

Last time in Florence I took the tour on the double decker bus, it afforded a great view of the city and a very different perspective for making photos of the city. So many of the photos I've been making are at ground level. This year, the tour was quite different, the buses no longer go thru the old city center and it's mostly a tour of the outter parts of the city with stops to let you get off and explore the city center. It's a good thing for the quality of life in Florence, a less useful photo trip.
